We Have Been Recognized
The Stifterverband has awarded us the “INNOVATIVE THROUGH RESEARCH” distinction on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Research and Development. This seal is awarded to companies that actively engage in research and development, thereby contributing to the strengthening of Germany as a business location. We received this award in recognition of our active commitment to the Open RAN sector.
The Stifterverband is a joint initiative of companies and foundations that is the only organization providing comprehensive advice, networking, and support in the fields of education, science, and innovation.
Since 1920, the Stifterverband has embodied the shared responsibility of German companies for a sustainable and livable society. DAX-listed corporations, small and medium-sized enterprises, business associations, donors, and committed individuals—around 3,000 members have joined forces in the Stifterverband. They form the nucleus of a network unique in Germany, bringing together business, science, politics, and civil society.
What is Open RAN?
Open RAN is an industry-wide initiative designed to enable an open, vendor-neutral solution for the radio access network (RAN).
How has it worked so far?
Until now, a network operator had to commit to one or two suppliers in advance. If one manufacturer supplied the 4G transmitter, the 5G transmitter also had to be purchased from the same manufacturer because the technology from competitors was incompatible. Or to put it simply: If you buy a dishwasher from AEG,
you then also have to buy the dishwasher detergent, tablets, and salt from AEG because products from other manufacturers are incompatible.
What are the benefits of Open RAN?
With Open RAN, we are taking a major step toward the future of mobile communications infrastructure. This makes mobile communications systems more flexible, cost-effective, and powerful.
The fundamental prerequisite for this is a robust and comprehensive fiber-optic network.
